John
Lennon Musuem
A
museum to commemorate John Lennon opened at Saitama Arena on October
9, 2000, the 60th anniversary of his birth. John Lennon was one
of the most famous artists of the 20th century, having been a member
of the Beatles and influenced large numbers of people around the
world.
Formally approved by Ms. Yoko Ono, this is the first such museum
in the world.
In
the museum, a variety of musical instruments and costumes of and
related to John Lennon and various other items from the memorabilia
held by Ms. Yoko Ono (including new exhibits!) are on display. The
exhibits are well organized, covering John Lennon's childhood to
his first gig, his career with the Beatles, his life with Yoko Ono
and lots more.
This museum was made with the intention of accurately passing on
John Lennon's life and works to the 21st century. Ono spoke at a
press conference to open the museum, and said: "John aimed for a
fusion of East and West. I hope that visitors to the museum go home
with some of John's energy and spirit, and use it to strengthen
themselves."
The museum also contains a cafe built in the image of the Manpei
Hotel in Karuizawa, which John loved and used to stay at when visiting
Japan in the last years of his life.
In short, a wonderful way to spend a day if you are not a big music
lover, and a definite not to be missed musuem if you live and breath
Beatles.
